There are over two hundred different kinds of skippers, and that is only a small amount of the total number. Their rapid darting flight gives them the name, skipper. They are found all around the United States and into southern Canada. Skippers will frequent edges of forests, swamps, brushy areas, and other open areas where nectar plants are found. The silver-spotted skipper is characterized by a large white spot on the underside of each hind wing. It is one of the largest, most widespread, and most recognizable skippers.
