Description
It was a snowy day when we traveled to southern Iowa to find some of the covered bridges around Winterset, Iowa. Even though we were on gravel roads the roads had some ice on them and with fresh snow, they were a bit slick. We were as careful as we could be driving on the hilly countryside and did find a few covered bridges to take photos of. The Hogback Covered Bridge was built over the North River in 1884 by Harvey P. Jones and George K. Foster and named after a nearby limestone ridge. The 106-foot-long bridge was designed with a town lattice truss system and built with steel pylons to support the main span. The Hogback Bridge was originally one of nineteen covered bridges in Madison County but today there are only six remaining covered bridges in the county. This bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. The Hogback Bridge was rehabilitated in 1992. Some of the information was found in Wikipedia the Free Encyclopedia. The Fine Art America watermark will not appear on your purchase. Ideal for your office or home. You can choose from a fine art canvas print, pillow, greeting cards, puzzles, and many other home decor products are available.

Kathy, congratulations on the Photo of the Day in USA Photographers Group! Great photo! I've been wanting to get down there in the snow - but not yet! Hogback Bridge is definitely on some backroads. Very well done, and well deserved photo of the day!
Kathy M Krause replied:
Thank you so much Linda, for your view and wonderful comments. I really appreciate you! Yes, it was kind of hard getting to the Hogback Bridge in the snow! If I go again in the snow, I will definitely drive a 4WD vehicle! There were a few vehicles in ditches or stuck around that area. Bless you.
