It was a beautiful day for birding on Saturday! The only thing that would have made it more perfect would have been less wind. While visiting Twin Lakes I saw several Red-winged Blackbirds clinging to cattails, wires and bulrush stems. There were also some females gathered around the marsh area but they are less conspicuous because their colors aren't as bright and brilliant. Female Red-winged Blackbirds look like oversized sparrows, well maybe not exactly. They have stripped looking bodies of browns and tans with a patch of light orangish color on their throat area and a tint above the eye. Yellow-headed Blackbirds can often been seen in the marsh area with their feathered kin, the Red-winged Blackbirds. The Fine Art America Watermark will not appear on your purchased artwork. I was raised on a farm in Iowa and even though I live in town now, I'm still drawn to the open spaces in the country. Usually to relax and rejuvenate I will turn on the first gravel road I see when I drive out of town. Of course that changes all the time. I blow with the wind and if there isn't a wind I go where and when I feel the urge to turn. I do stop for barns, horses, old farm machinery or old trucks and cars.
