Mount Rushmore is a beautiful site! Located in the Black Hills very close to Keystone, South Dakota. Construction work started October 4, 1927 and the memorial opened in October 1941. The main visionary and sculptor of this massive memorial was Gutzon Borglum along with the help of his son Lincoln and chief carver Luigi del Bianco. Over 400 workers helped carve the sixty-foot-high faces. There is a museum on the grounds and two theaters that will provide a short film introduction about the memorial. Part of the area also has interactive exhibits and tools that were used to make the memorial. Mount Rushmore is an amazing place to visit and rich with American history. There are hiking trails for those that like to get a different view of the memorial or just like to hike in the woods. There are also elevators and wheelchair accessible parking available at the memorial grounds. Beautiful scenery surrounds Mount Rushmore and you can see Mount Rushmore several times at various locations as you travel around the area. In the area there are numerous things to see and do.
