Description
The photo was taken east of Fonda, before the barn was moved to a different location. I have fond memories of this beautiful Mustang barn from back in the early 90's. I was a journalist for a newspaper and when the Newell-Fonda girls basketball team would win a spot to play at the Iowa state championship games, I was always excited to go. With the team loaded on the high school bus, they would stop at this barn followed by loyal fans and family, and they would have a short pep rally before the bus continued to Des Moines to the "Big Barn" for the state championship basketball play offs. The girls' and boys' basketball teams have many state championship trophies in the high school trophy case. The Newell-Fonda sports teams were all pretty good and there were other sports that have been honored with state trophies as well. Go Mustangs! What a beautiful photo, Kathy! As Andrew said, I also love the blue in the barn and the sky! The girls Iowa state championship basketball games were always exciting in the "Big Barn"! Thanks for rekindling this memory!
