Over the weekend I wanted to get more fall foliage pictures. I headed out early Saturday morning and just started driving, since I love getting out in the open spaces and getting in touch closer up with nature. I decided to go directly to Kennedy Memorial Park north of Fort Dodge Iowa. At first I was disappointed and then the action started. I was all set up with my camera and tripod and was already focusing in on some more colorful trees when a small fishing boat came into view. Excellent and awesome timing!!! After I had taken a few pictures of the boat, lo and behold a white egret came flying right up to the dock I was taking pictures around. Oh my gosh...... Wow! I got so excited I almost bumped over my tripod. Lol. He was beautiful white and no way could he be camouflaged by the surrounding fall colors of the trees, reeds and grass. One of the best things about this park, there is a wonderful Vets Memorial Park on the other side of the lake which is very impressive and awesome place to take a walk and say prayers of thanks to many that have served and are still serving to protect and preserve our freedoms! So many tributes to our lost loved ones and POW's! The John F. Kennedy Memorial Park is the largest and most popular area in Webster County. Construction of Kennedy Park began in 1962 and the park was officially dedicated in 1965. The 400 acre park is a multiple use with a 53-acre lake that provides the focal point for a wide variety of outdoor activities including camping, fishing, picnicking, hiking, canoeing and boating (no gas motors) as well as an the 18 hole Lakeside Municipal Golf Course. You can go fishing on the lake which has docks available, including a handicapped accessible fishing jetty. Boat ramp (No gas motors), swimming beach (No lifeguard on duty), hiking trails, a softball field, Children's Forest, children's playground ,open shelters with grill, bird blind viewing and feeding station, butterfly garden, winter activities, and a remote control airplane flying area.
