Description
Original photography and digital artwork by Kathy Krause. Driving home from Willow Pond, I came to the intersection to stop and turn. It was then I noticed this little guy walking along the paved road. So while I was stopped and no one behind me, I grabbed my camera off the car seat and was able to get one shot off before he flew away. I think they are so awesome but they look kind of out of place in the country. In my recent research on them, even though they are considered a shore bird, they can be seen along gravel roads, railroad tracks in the gravel, and along dirt roads. They are a medium sized plover. Brown and black wings, white belly and white breast with two black bands. The eye has an orange ring around it. They can often be found along shore lines of ponds and lakes but they usually have a nest in gravel. All images are subject to copyright laws and may not be used, altered or duplicated in anyway without written permission from the artist, Kathy Krause.
