Description
When I visit Willow Pond there are always a variety of birds and one of my favorite is the little Downy Woodpecker. They are only about five or six inches long. They are all black and white except for a small cap of red feathers at the base of their head. They have long talons to hold on to trees as they maneuver around and up and down trees. They can be found in open areas and usually nest along fencerows and feed amid tall weeds. In one fast and smooth hop and they can disappear around the tree. They are so enjoyable to watch! Downy Woodpeckers can be found in orchards, parks, groves, suburbs and open areas.
