Description
I did not see this Bittern as I was driving very slowly through the marsh area of Lizard Lake, until it made a slight move. Wow! There it was almost totally camouflage with the reeds and grass. The American Bittern is a medium sized heron with a more compact body and shorter green legs. The bill is long, straight and sharply pointed like a knife. Their feathers are usually light brown, cream and white. They are streaked, especially in the neck area and when they stretch out in the marsh reeds and are motionless they are very hard to see. The American Bittern can be found in freshwater marshes and usually among the reeds and vegetation where they stalk frogs, insects and fish for meals in the marsh. The Fine Art America Watermark will not appear on your purchased artwork.
